In honour of Remembrance Day, we have scheduled Greg Childs to speak to us via Zoom on Thursday, October 20th at 7:30 pm about our famous Canadian war hero, Billy Bishop, who was himself descended from three proven lines of United Empire Loyalists. He is widely known as the top Canadian flying ace of the First World War but also played a significant role in WWII. Greg will also include a segment about what it means to be awarded the Victoria Cross in Canada. The Victoria Cross (VC) is the highest and most prestigious award of the British honours system and has a slightly different meaning in Canada.
Greg has a background in the armed forces, having served both in the Canadian Army Regular Forces and in the Reserve Forces. He has held the position of Dominion Council Parliamentarian with UELAC and is active with the London and Western Ontario Branch of UELAC as branch historian. His wife, Carol, has been president of that branch for the past 7 years. His work life after the armed forces was equally interesting and exciting, as he spent more than 33 years with the London Police Service as a forensic homicide investigator and bomb disposal expert.
