Researching the Arnold Family’s Journeys
Member of Toronto Branch, Beth Adams, gave a virtual presentation on her research of her maternal grandfather’s family. She shared the story of the Arnold family’s journey from the New Jersey Shore to the shores of Digby, Nova Scotia and later Lake Erie, giving examples of sources from her research, as well as the results. She shared the adventures she and her cousins have had visiting the places their ancestors have lived, adding her unique humour throughout the presentation. Beth’s shared how, as a history teacher, she regularly took her students to War of 1812 Re-enactments at Fort York, an experience her students will never forget.
Bio
Beth Adams has been interested in history her whole life. She was born in Toronto, and her mother used to say she raised her in nursing homes, visiting relatives. Beth loved the stories that were shared on these visits and started to write them down when she was in her teens. She and her late mother have been researching their Cleveland and Arnold families for 40 years. Her 3 sons are occasionally interested in the family stories too.
Beth retired from teaching in January 2019 and moved to Pembroke, Ontario. She volunteers with Toronto Branches of UELAC and OGS, and the Champlain Trail Museum and the Upper Ottawa Valley Genealogical Group in Pembroke. She has also been very involved in Scouting for close to 20 years, including the War of 1812 re-enactment camp held in Niagara-on-the-Lake each fall.
Beth and her Mom received their UE certificates in 2016.
